Civil Rights Representation

The basic function of civil rights and related laws is to ensure that everyone enjoys certain inalienable rights. These court-mandated and statutory protections are from unequal treatment or discrimination based on race and other defining characteristics. It also applies to government agents and law enforcement to prevent excessive force. Unfortunately, individuals and organizations sometimes have to turn to the legal system to enforce those protections.

Attorney Donald L. Nageleisen has handled some of the largest civil rights cases in Kentucky since he began practicing law in 1989. One notable example was our 2003 defense of a young inmate in the Grant County Jail who was abused by fellow inmates with the knowledge and consent of the prison staff. Before the firm was done, several people went to federal prison because of their criminal conduct, and we were able to recoup millions upon millions of dollars. Today this still involves one of the largest settlements in Kentucky correctional facility history.
